Manchester City have decided to make a move for a Barcelona midfielder in January. Chelsea are also keeping an eye.

Manchester City had a decent summer transfer window. However, the same cannot be said about their start of the new season.

In the first game against Wolves, Pep Guardiola’s men won by 4-0 at Molineux. But the following week, they suffered a 2-0 loss in the hands to Tottenham Hotspur at home.

After that, the Citizens lost to Brighton and Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium. Currently, they are sitting at 12th place with 3 points in 3 games.

Manchester City are struggling to create chances. There is no doubt they are missing Kevin De Bruyne, who joined Napoli on a free transfer this summer.

Pep did bring in Rayan Cherki from Lyon to replace the Belgian. However, the 22-year-old needs more time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League.

That is why Manchester City are now targeting a player whom Pep Guardiola admires a lot from his old club.

According to talkSPORT, the Citizens are ready to make a move for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez in January.

The Spaniard was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer. However, the Blues did not make a move for the 22-year-old.

Hansi Flick, the Barcelona manager, rates Fermin highly. So, it will be difficult to convince the German manager to let him go.

Also, Fermin Lopez has publicly stated that he wants to continue his career at Barcelona. However, behind the scenes, things are different.

The Blaugrana don’t want to lose their player. However, with the current financial state of the club, they might have no other option but to sell Fermin Lopez.

So, Barcelona will be looking for a fee of around the north of €90 million. For a club like Manchester City or even Chelsea, such a fee will not deter their ambition of signing the player they want.
