Lamine Yamal injury update ahead of trip to Newcastle United

Will Yamal play on Thursday night?

Lamine Yamal has fast become one of the best players in the world at just the age of 18.

He had his breakthrough season in the 2023/24 campaign, before announcing himself to the world during the European Championships that summer.

Spain were crowned European champions, beating England 2-1 in the Berlin final. Yamal assisted Nico Williams for the opener and he was named Young Player of the Tournament after the final whistle.

Spain’s win made him the youngest player to not only win the tournament but also have a goal involvement in the final.

Yamal has since gone from strength to strength, recording 18 goals and 25 assists last season across all competitions.

He had a big to play in Barcelona’s La Liga title success, and came within an inch of reaching his first UEFA Champions League final.

Barcelona will no doubt be one of the favourites to win Europe’s top club prize this season, a tournament they have not won since their infamous MSN trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez  and Neymar.

They start their European campaign off in the North East next week, but could be without their star youngster.

According to reports, Yamal will miss Barcelona’s game with Valencia tomorrow.

Furthermore, this adds doubt over his availability for their Thursday night meeting with Newcastle United on Thursday night at St. James’ Park.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick spoke on the injury concerns. He said: “Spain gave him painkillers and even when they were winning they made him play. This is not taking care of the players. I’m very sad about this.”

This will give Newcastle a boost, with one of the best players in the world potentially unavailable.
