Chelsea prepare for one of their toughest tests of the season as the Blues Welcome the defending Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca is facing serious selection problems at the back before this Chelsea vs Liverpool clash. Trevoh Chalobah will not be available after receiving a red card.
The Blues are still reeling from a 3-1 defeat to Brighton last weekend. But they did get the better of Jose Mourinho’s Benfica in the Champions League.
Also, the injury list makes matters worse. Tosin Adarabioyo remains sidelined with a calf problem. If Wesley Fofana does not clear concussion protocols, Maresca will be forced into a risky call.
Therefore, Josh Acheampong could be thrown into the lineup. The 19-year-old may line up alongside fellow youngster Jorrel Hato if experience is lacking.
However, Benoit Badiashile has now returned from his injury layoff. He played over 80 minutes in the midweek Champions League win against Benfica. So, Maresca is likely to rely on his experience.
Captain Reece James could to return at right-back, pushing Malo Gusto to the bench. On the left, Marc Cucurella should keep his place.
In midfield, options remain limited. Cole Palmer is still out with a groin issue. Also, Andrey Santos is a doubt after suffering a knock.
Therefore, Facundo Buonanotte should continue as the most advanced midfielder. He will play ahead of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, who will anchor the midfield.
Further forward, Chelsea will make use of their attacking depth. Joao Pedro is available despite his midweek red card in Europe. He is likely to lead the line in the Premier League.
On the wings, Estevao and Pedro Neto are set to provide support. Both players will need to be sharp against Liverpool’s strong full-backs.
Chelsea must cope with injuries and suspensions in key areas. However, Maresca will hope his mix of youth and experience can deliver against the champions.
Chelsea predicted lineup vs Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Acheampong, Badiashile, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Estevao, Buonanotte, Neto; Pedro.
