Manchester City are back in Premier League action on Sunday. However, Pep Guardiola is expected to rotate his side after a busy European schedule.
Rodri started in midweek against Monaco and played 61 minutes in the 2-2 Champions League draw. Also, he managed to come through unscathed after recent knee problems.
So, Guardiola must now decide whether to risk him again so soon. The likely answer is no.
Therefore, Nico Gonzalez is in line to replace Rodri in midfield. The Spaniard is fully fit and ready, making him the logical choice as Guardiola manages minutes carefully.
After that, there could be more changes in attack. Savinho may come into the XI to provide fresh legs. He could replace Bernardo Silva, who has played heavily in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Phil Foden is certain to start. The Englishman has an excellent record against Brentford, scoring seven Premier League goals against them so far. He will be eager to extend that run after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
In support, Tijjani Reijnders and Jeremy Doku should both keep their places. Together with Foden, they will provide creativity behind Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian striker is in electric form. His brace against Monaco took him to 11 goals in just eight appearances this season.
At the back, Guardiola has more decisions to make. Matheus Nunes could return on the right side of defence. That shift would allow John Stones to move centrally.
So, Ruben Dias could get a rest after playing consistently. Josko Gvardiol and O’Reilly should complete the defensive line.
In goal, Donnarumma will continue as first choice. He has settled quickly and brings confidence to the backline.
Manchester City know Brentford away will be a tricky test. However, Guardiola’s tweaks, including resting Rodri, could keep the champions sharp in a packed schedule.
Man City predicted lineup vs Brentford(4-1-4-1): Donnarumma; Nunes, Stones, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Gonzalez; Savinho, Foden, Reijnders, Doku; Haaland.
