It’s already a busy period for Chelsea ahead of the summer.

Before the Blues jet off to America for the Club World Cup, they have a Europa Conference League final and the start to a busy transfer window to contend with.

Following Champions League qualification, Chelsea will have a fresh set of transfer targets, being able to attract a higher calibre of player.

Their young squad looks ready to burst into life and could push on multiple fronts with the right investment.

The window isn’t open until June 1st, but the rumour mill is rife for the Blues.

And even before the window opens, it looks like the West Londoners are about to close in on their first transfer…

Chief Football Correspondent for Talksport, Alex Crook, has confirmed that Chelsea are closing in a move for Ipswich forward Liam Delap.

The Blues appear to be in the box seat, with rivals United also linked with the young striker.

However, a lack of Champions League football is proving to be a big negative for the Red Devils in their pursuit, which of course the Blues are able to offer following their final day win at Nottingham Forest.

Liam Delap enjoyed a real breakthrough season, scoring 12 Premier League goals and often proving to be the talisman for the Tractor Boys.

It seems inevitable the young Englishman will get a move to one of the Premier League’s top clubs this summer, and it could prove a major coup for Chelsea.

Delap has a relegation clause in his current Ipswich contract, so will not be short of suitors this summer.

Can he be the man to fire Chelsea to more major honours? Only time will tell.
