The man who once played for Manchester City in England and Real Madrid in Spain now spends his days behind bars.
Currently, he is far away from the spotlight that once followed him everywhere. Now, he has now broken his silence to share what his new life really looks like.
A rare video from inside a Sao Paulo jail shows Robinho speaking calmly about his daily routine and denying rumours of any special treatment.
The 41-year-old was once one of football’s brightest forwards. Now, he lives under strict prison rules in the Tremembe facility. This is the same place that holds politicians and murderers.
His fall from limelight began more than a decade ago, when he was convicted in Italy for a serious crime dating back to 2013.
In 2017, the court found Robinho guilty of participating in the assault of a woman in Milan.
After a long legal battle, he was arrested in 2024 in his homeland to serve a nine-year sentence. So, the court decided he would serve his time in Brazil rather than under house arrest.
Meanwhile, in the new video, the former international explained how his life has changed. Robinho said [via Marca]:
“I’ve never received any special treatment. Visits are on Saturdays or Sundays. My wife sometimes brings my children. Everything here is the same for everyone.”
Robinho added that he sleeps and eats like other inmates and only plays football on Sundays when there is no work. He continued:
“Despite how difficult it is to be in prison, it’s normal. I’ve kept a cool head and do what every inmate does.”
Still, he rejected claims that he was a prison leader or had mental health issues.
“Here, the guards are in charge. We, the inmates, just obey.”
The former Manchester City and Real Madrid man says he is just another name on the list — one that football will never forget.
