Football’s biggest governing body, FIFA, will host the next edition of the FIFA World Cup next year. The hosts of the tournament will be the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
This will be the 23rd edition of the quadrennial men’s football tournament. Argentina won the tournament last time in 2022 in Qatar. This was their 2nd FIFA World Cup victory.
Brazil is by far the most successful in the World Cup’s history, as they have won it 5 times. After Brazil, Italy and Germany have won this tournament 4 times.
The draw for the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup will take place in Washington, DC, on Friday, 5 December 2025.
The tournament will start on 11 July 2026. The MetLife Stadium in New York will host the final on 19 July 2026.
But before the draw on 5 December, the governing body will award its first-ever “FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World”.
While introducing this new award, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the following on his Instagram account:
“In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it’s fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace.
Football stands for peace, and on behalf of the entire global football community, the FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World will recognise the enormous efforts of those individuals who unite people, bringing hope for future generations.”
Many are speculating that the US President, Donald Trump, will receive this award from the FIFA President.
