The international break at times becomes a nightmare for Premier League clubs. In the middle of a season, clubs have to let players go to play for their national teams.
And many of those players return with injuries that cause havoc in their clubs’ squad balance. That is why many managers reluctantly let their players go during international breaks.
For one Premier League manager, this international break has become a true nightmare. Many of his players have been injured during the last rounds of the World Cup qualifiers.
Having such a long list of injuries for a club just a point behind the top 4 is nothing short of a disaster. Now, it will be a challenge for the in-form club to keep their consistency going.
Last season, AFC Bournemouth finished 9th in the Premier League table. This season, after 11 games, the Cherries are in the same spot.
However, they have 18 points and are just a point behind Sunderland, who are in the fourth spot. They already have two major injury setbacks in this international.
Their premier attacker, Antoine Semenyo, had an injury while representing Ghana in the World Cup qualifier. The same happened to Justin Kluivert, who was representing the Netherlands.
Now, another player has joined Bournemouth’s injury list after the international break. During Scotland’s do-or-die World Cup qualifier game against Denmark, one player got injured.
Ben Gannon-Doak left the field on a stretcher, as tears came down his face around the 21st minute of the game.
The former Liverpool player had problems with his hamstring, and that is why he left the field in agony.
However, Scotland confirmed their World Cup spot by defeating Denmark with a margin of 4-2.
Now, Bournemouth and Andoni Iraola will be hoping that Doak’s injury is not serious. Otherwise, this international break could be catastrophic for their season.
