2024/25 was a disappointing season for Lazio.

Two years on from finishing second place in Serie A, Lazio finished this season in seventh place.

This includes a 6-0 home defeat to Inter Milan in December.

They had the chance to still end the season on a high and secure European football for next season.

Their penultimate game was against Inter in the return fixture.

After going 2-1 down, they would secure a dramatic 2-2 draw after Pedro converted from the spot.

All they needed to do on the final day was win against Lecce at home, who were looking to avoid regulation.

However, a 1-0 defeat saw Europa Conference League hopes dashed as Fiorentina took the final European spot.

This led to manager Marco Baroni resigning from his post as Lazio manager.

After just a year, his time at the club is over.

This is despite reports earlier in the season that he was going to receive a new and improved contract.

Instead, Baroni will be looking for his next job after his resignation.

This means Lazio will be on the search for another manager.

This will mark their fourth managerial change in less than 18 months.

In March 2024, Maurizio Sarri was relieved of his duties.

Giovanni Martusciello came in as caretaker manager for five days before Igor Tudor was confirmed as the replacement.

Tudor resigned after the end of the 2023/24 season and Baroni was announced that summer.

It appears they have now found his replacement.

It has been reported that they will look to re-hire Sarri as manager, less than two years after his departure.

A two-year deal plus options is reported today to being close to completion.

After managers have failed since Sarri’s departure, it looks like the owners have decided to go back to a tried and tested method.
