Real Madrid are having a tough time both inside and outside the pitch. The club is under serious crisis not only because of the results but also because of the dressing room conflicts.
The Los Blancos picked Xabi Alonso as the successor for Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian had a successful stint as the Madrid boss helping them win two Champions League titles.
But last year was a disaster for the Spanish giants. They failed to win a single trophy in the entire season.
That is why parting ways with Ancelotti was inevitable. Things became smooth when the Brazil offer came for Ancelotti and he didn’t hesitate to pick it up.
The Italian knew that his position was under scrutiny. So, he left and the search for a new manager began at Madrid. Xabi Alonso became the clear favourite to be the successor for Ancelotti.
He had a successful stint in Germany where he ended Bayern Munich’s reign by crowning Bayer Leverkusen the Bundesliga champions.
So, everyone was expecting Madrid to get back to the top of Spanish and European football once again. But things started badly with the Club World Cup humiliation.
However, in the La Liga, the Los Blancos started strongly. It felt like they would be unstoppable this season. But cracks started to appear after their El Clasico victory.
And now, things have become untenable for the Spanish giants. And, after their recent defeat to Manchester City, Xabi Alonso is walking on thin ice that can melt anytime.
Now, as per Sky Germany (via Madrid Universal on X), Real Madrid have chosen their next manager if they sack Xabi Alonso. The clear favourite for the job will be Zinedine Zidane.
The Frenchman had a successful stint at Bernabeu in the past listing three Champions League title back-to-back.
The names of Jurgen Klopp and Alvaro Arbeloa are also there in the list. So far, Real Madrid have given Xabi Alonso time till New Year to turn things around.
