Liverpool have started to reassess their attacking plans ahead of the January transfer window. However, one option is now moving out of reach.

Antoine Semenyo is no longer a realistic target for the Reds. The winger is closing in on a move to Manchester City. Because of that, Liverpool have shifted their focus elsewhere.

The recent injury to Alexander Isak has also changed the situation. Liverpool may now need cover for Hugo Ekitike in the short term. It also means Mohamed Salah is unlikely to leave in January.

However, there has been uncertainty around Salah’s long-term future. Because of that, can explore options they can rely on in the future.

With Semenyo no longer a priority, Liverpool are refocusing ahead of the January market. Sources have already suggested the club were not actively working on that deal in recent days.

Still, there is growing belief that attacking reinforcements are needed. Isak’s injury has increased that pressure.

According to a well-known account on X, said to consist of five elite reporters, Liverpool are looking at short-term attacking options. Two former Premier League players have been mentioned.

One of those is Memphis Depay. The Dutch forward previously struggled at Manchester United. However, he has rebuilt his career since then.

Depay is now the Netherlands’ all-time leading goalscorer. He is currently playing for Corinthians, after leaving Atletico Madrid in 2024.

Liverpool also have strong Dutch links. Arne Slot is Dutch. Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo are also part of the squad.

The second name is Alexander Sorloth. He currently plays for Atletico Madrid. He previously struggled at Crystal Palace, but has since scored more than 50 LaLiga goals.

It has been claimed Sorloth could be available on loan for the second half of the season.

Liverpool are also monitoring Igor Thiago of Brentford, according to CaughtOffside. The club believe he could fit into their plans.

Liverpool will also consider how things change once Isak returns later in 2026, before making any move.
