Liverpool have acted quickly after missing out on Antoine Semenyo. The winger is set to join Manchester City, ending Liverpool’s interest.
The Reds were keen on Semenyo. They saw him as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. However, the chance to win major trophies under Pep Guardiola proved decisive in his decision.
Because of that, Liverpool have already shifted focus. The club are now exploring alternative options ahead of the January transfer window.
Reports now suggest Liverpool are already in talks with a new target. The player is currently based in Germany. And the potential fee being discussed has raised eyebrows.
According to Anfield Index, Liverpool have held preliminary talks with Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund.
The same outlet reported that Liverpool were left unsure over Semenyo’s valuation. That opened the door for discussions over a cheaper alternative.
The winger in question has been playing in the Bundesliga since 2022. He is under contract until the summer of 2027. He has also built a strong reputation at club and international level.
At just 23, he already has over 120 senior appearances. He has scored 32 goals and registered 22 assists during that time.
His manager is a big admirer. He recently described the winger as “world class” after a Champions League performance. He also praised his consistency and attitude.
This is not the first time Liverpool have targetted Adeyemi. However, a deal may not be straightforward.
Dortmund would want closer to €70 million. For now, Liverpool are weighing up their options.
