It is never easy when a top transfer target turns you down, especially after scoring 20 goals in a single Premier League season.

But that is exactly the situation Newcastle United now find themselves in.

After pushing hard to sign a high-performing forward, the Magpies have seen their hopes dashed.

Despite being offered a clear role and the chance to lead the line at St. James’ Park, the player had other plans.

Bryan Mbeumo has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford and made that decision clear, turning down interest not only from Newcastle but also from Arsenal and Tottenham.

That rejection has forced Newcastle to adjust their approach. While a goal-scorer was the original plan, the club has now shifted focus towards reinforcing another part of the pitch.

And it is a switch that reflects their long-term strategy: investing in young, high-potential talent who can grow into the first team.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle have set their sights on James McAtee, a 22-year-old midfielder from Manchester City.

Although Pep Guardiola rates McAtee highly, the intense competition at the Etihad has left little room for him to break through.

City are now open to selling the midfielder this summer. Manchester United are also interested in signing the midfielder.

McAtee has already shown his quality in the top flight during his loan spell at Sheffield United, and his ability to play both centrally and out wide makes him a valuable asset.

With Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff possibly heading out, there could be space opening up in Eddie Howe’s midfield. Valued at around £20 million, James McAtee is not a bargain.

But he fits Newcastle’s model perfectly; young, talented, and hungry for regular minutes. If a deal goes through, he could be the next piece in the club’s growing puzzle.
