Chelsea and Napoli set to fight for Bayern Munich centre-back

The Blues believe a €25–30 million bid could be enough to open serious talks.

Chelsea are preparing to make a €25–30 million move for a Bayern Munich defender who is emerging as a key target for new head coach Liam Rosenior.

Rosenior recently replaced Enzo Maresca at Chelsea. He is keen to strengthen his defensive options during the January transfer window.

As per reports, the former Strasbourg boss has personally pushed for the club to explore a deal for the Bayern Munich centre-back. However, Chelsea are not the only side interested.

Napoli are also monitoring the situation closely. So, they are also considering a move to bring their former defender back to Serie A.

So, this could set up a potential battle between the Premier League and Italy for his signature. According to Fichajes, both Chelsea and Napoli are looking to sign Kim Min-jae.

Kim’s future at Bayern Munich has been under scrutiny for some time. The 29-year-old has featured in 17 matches across all competitions this season.

However, he has accumulated fewer than 800 minutes of first-team action, slipping down the pecking order as Bayern rotate their defensive options.

While the South Korean international arrived with a strong reputation following his outstanding spell at Napoli, his role in Germany has diminished in recent months.

As a result, several top clubs believe a move could now be possible. Although his contract runs until 2028, Bayern are understood to be open to a sale if a suitable offer arrives.

For Chelsea, this represents a rare opportunity to add an experienced, proven defender rather than another long-term project.

Rosenior wants a commanding presence at the back, someone capable of leading the defensive line and guiding younger players.

Kim fits that profile perfectly. The Blues believe a €25–30 million bid could be enough to open serious talks.

It will be interesting to see whether Bayern accept Chelsea’s bid when they move, or Napoli move first and get the deal over the line.
