Mykhailo Mudryk’s turbulent period away from football has taken another turn. The Chelsea winger is now facing disciplinary action in an entirely different arena.

The incident comes at a difficult time for the Chelsea forward. In December 2024, Mudryk tested positive for doping and is currently serving a provisional suspension from all football-related activity.

The Ukrainian international has been handed a one-month suspension from FACEIT, the popular competitive Counter-Strike platform.

Mudryk was found guilty of toxic behaviour during a Counter-Strike 2 match. According to reports, Mudryk became involved in a heated in-game exchange with Polish players.

Messages attributed to the 24-year-old include remarks such as “U SO BAD,” “lucky volyn,” and “volyn next map.” The reference to “Volyn” was deemed especially serious.

The term relates to the Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia during World War II, a historical topic regarded as extremely sensitive.

Mykhailo Mudryk has since responded to the situation in a statement given to Ukrainian outlet Tribuna. The Chelsea winger said (quotes via DEXERTO):

“My position is very simple. A big thank you to the Polish people who sincerely support the Ukrainians.

“But I constantly hear and see how some Poles treat Ukrainians, especially those who currently live in Poland. I feel it even in small things, for example, when I play CS.”

“As soon as you try to communicate normally for the sake of team play, and they find out that you are from Ukraine, outright disrespect begins.”

Mykhailo Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 for €100 million with a contract until 2031. The Ukrainian has joined Chelsea’s first-team training after his ban was over.
