Liverpool make early moves for Real Madrid target

Liverpool’s early groundwork suggests they are positioning themselves to act decisively if the market opens up in the summer.

Transfer Update - Liverpool

Liverpool will be looking to add a new midfielder next summer. They are scouting multiple top midfielders across Europe.

They have looked at players like Elliot Anderson, Eduardo Camavinga, and Adam Wharton. However, the Reds have identified a Dutch midfielder that Real Madrid are scouting as well.

Liverpool have taken early steps in the race to sign AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit, moving ahead of the Los Blancos and several Premier League rivals.

Recently, Liverpool hijacked a deal in January from the clutches of Chelsea when they agreed a fee for Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. Now, they have taken an ascendency in search for the midfielder.

According to CaughtOffside, the Reds have already held preliminary discussions with Smit’s representatives as they assess midfield reinforcements for the coming seasons.

The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the standout young midfielders in the Eredivisie and is attracting serious interest across Europe.

Smit has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season, registering three goals and five assists.

His ability to control games from deep, carry the ball forward, and operate under pressure has placed him firmly on the radar of elite clubs.

CaughtOffside reports that Arsenal and Manchester United also explored potential deals during the January transfer window.

AZ Alkmaar have placed an initial valuation of around €60 million on the midfielder. But that figure could rise in the coming months.

With multiple Premier League clubs monitoring the situation, sources believe the price could climb towards €75 million.

Now, Real Madrid’s scouting department has produced highly positive internal reports on Smit. But the Spanish club remain cautious about paying such an inflated transfer fee.

So, Liverpool’s early groundwork suggests they are positioning themselves to act decisively if the market opens up in the summer.
