Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has become the owner of a football club. The Belgian has been the mainstay between the sticks at Santiago Bernabeu since he joined the club from Chelsea.

In 2018, Madrid paid £35 million to Chelsea for Courtois, even though he had only a year left in his contract at that time. Courtois initially signed a six-year deal with the Los Blancos.

However, in 2021, Madrid extended his contract, which would have kept him at the club till 2026. Yet, in 2025, they extended his contract for another year.

It means his contract will expire in June 2027. Thibaut Courtois has won multiple trophies with the Los Blancos so far.

The 33-year-old has won three La Liga titles, two Champions League titles, two FIFA Club World Cups, one Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups.

In the 2022 Champions League final, he put in a Man of the Match performance. Now, Thibaut Courtois will have another achievement under his name, as he becomes the part-owner of a football club.

According to AS, the Real Madrid shot stopper has become a shareholder of the French Ligue 2 club Le Mans through his investment fund.

However, Courtois is not the only prominent name to become an investor in Le Mans. Other prominent names include Novak Djokovic, Felipe Massa, and Kevin Magnussen.

Courtois’ investment company, NxtPlay, invested funds in the French club’s project. And, in this way, the Belgian international became a part-owner of Le Mans.

The French club is currently in the fifth position in the Ligue 2 and had a 20-game undefeated streak before losing to Stade de Reims in the Coupe de France round of 16.

Now, Courtois is not the first Real Madrid player in the current squad to own a football club.

Previously, Kylian Mbappe invested in SM Caen (France), and Vinicius Junior did the same with Alverca SC (Portugal).
