Manchester City could finally sign Kyle Walker replacement

Transfer Update - Manchester City

Kyle Walker was surely one of the best right-backs in the world when he was at Manchester City. He was a key part of Pep Guardiola’s team when they won the continental Treble in 2023.

However, Walker left the Citizens last summer to join Burnley. But Pep Guardiola did not replace him in his squad. He used Matheus Nunes as the right-back.

Now, Nunes’ best position is midfield. That is where he plays for Portugal. And that is why he has struggled many times this season.

Also, apart from Nunes, Guardiola has used Rico Lewis, Abdukodir Khusanov, Manuel Akanji, and John Stones in the right-back position.

However, none of them was able to create the impact Kyle Walker had in previous seasons. But Pep Guardiola wanted to sign a right-back last summer.

The Spaniard identified the ideal replacement for Walker. However, the Citizens failed to sign the player even after making a move.

Now, they are expected to come back for the same player. According to Football Insider, Manchester City will reignite their interest in Tino Livramento.

The Newcastle United right-back had been fantastic during the 2024/25 season and played a crucial role in securing Champions League football for the Magpies.

Livramento had become a key figure for Eddie Howe in defence. However, he is struggling with injuries this season. So far, he has made only 19 appearances.

The former Southampton man could make a comeback in mid-March. Still, Pep Guardiola knows how talented Livramento is.

Now, he has a contract with Newcastle until 2028. This puts the Magpies in a strong position during the negotiation with Manchester City.

That is why the Magpies could ask for a fee of around £80 million to £100 million. But the Citizens will look to get that price down if Newcastle fail to secure Champions League football next season.
