Liverpool are coming back to form once again. The win against Real Madrid will give immense confidence for their next Premier League encounter, which will be against Manchester City.
However, for a former Liverpool man, things have gone from bad to worse. The Dutch giants Ajax lost to Galatasaray by 3-0 in the Champions League.
They are sitting in the last position in the Champions League table. In Eredivisie, they are currently in 4th place. So, there was a need to make a big change, and the Dutch side did exactly that.
Ajax have officially confirmed that head coach John Heitinga has been suspended with immediate effect following a difficult spell in charge.
The former Liverpool defender’s contract was set to run until June 2027, but will now be terminated ahead of schedule.
The decision also affects assistant coach Marcel Keizer, whose contract will likewise be ended.
Moreover, Ajax have announced that Fred Grim will take over first-team duties on an interim basis while the club searches for a permanent replacement.
Technical director Alex Kroes admitted that parting ways with Heitinga was a painful choice but insisted it was necessary.
He explained that the team’s performances had fallen short of expectations. Therefore, the Ajax board felt the need to act quickly to stabilise results and restore confidence within the squad.
Furthermore, Kroes acknowledged that Heitinga had been given time to work with the new team, but the results simply did not improve.
Also, Kroes himself has offered to step down from his role as technical director with immediate effect. However, the club’s board has urged him to stay.
With Fred Grim now in temporary charge, the Amsterdam giants will aim to regain momentum starting with their next Eredivisie fixture away to FC Utrecht on Sunday.
