It has not been the start to the season for Mohamed Salah that anyone expected.
After winning his second Premier League and third PFA Player of the Year award in the process, Salah was rewarded with a two-year contract extension this summer worth a reported £400,000 per week.
However, Salah has registered just two goals in eight Premier League games with only one of these being in open play.
Salah’s form has been highlighted more and more the further Liverpool’s drop off in form has gone, with three straight league losses.
They suffered four straight losses in all competitions before a Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday ended the losing streak.
Salah did not start the 5-1 win on Wednesday as Slot made the decision to bring him off the bench instead.
This caused a lot of media reaction, and with the team winning without him, this has only intensified talk of Salah’s powers faltering.
After going for goal instead of squaring to Florian Wirtz during Sunday’s Anfield defeat to Manchester United, he did the same again on Wednesday night, but in an even more frustrating manner for Liverpool fans.
As a result of his form, this was a hot topic during the build up to today’s game away to Brentford.
Arne Slot makes stunning claim about Mohamed Salah as Liverpool’s struggles continue
Speaking during yesterday’s news conference, Slot spoke on Salah’s form.
“The main thing is that he always has scored goals for Liverpool.
“The last thing I worry about is Mo scoring goals again. He’s done that his entire life and I expect him to do that again in the upcoming weeks and months.
“In general in football, players miss chances and he is a human being. We are not used to him missing chances.
“It could be a factor [no Alexander-Arnold] as he played his entire Liverpool career [up to this season] with him, but he has been in promising positions to score goals.
“In general, quite a few changes in the squad from the summer mean everyone needs to find new connections again. It might have something to do with that.”
Liverpool play Brentford later on this evening, and with the injuries suffered to Jeremie Frimpong and Alexander Isak in Wednesday’s win offer a chance for Salah to start once again and answer his critics.
