As we enter the final couple of hours of Deadline Day, deals are happening left right and centre.

The key is always to get deals done beforehand, to avoid rushing into deals, but that is never the reality.

One club who are trying to make moves on Deadline Day are Athletic Club.

They are of course unique in how they have a much more limited pool of players to choose from.

However, there is one Basque player that they have been chasing this summer.

That is former Athletic defender Aymeric Laporte.

It looks like they may have finally got their man.

According to El Partidazo de COPE, Athletic have finalised the signing of Laporte from Al-Nassr.

They report that he will sign a three year contract to return to northern Spain.

The defender had previously played for the club between 2012 and 2018, before joining Manchester City.

In the summer of 2023, he left City to join Al-Nassr.

However, with the club continuing to buy foreign players, there has been no room for him of late.

Laporte has not played for the club since April.

With the World Cup next year, and the 31-year old not being in either of the previous two squads, a move was needed.

It certainly helps that he will now be playing at a much higher level, in La Liga and the Champions League.

During the Euros, Laporte played in six of seven games and was very good throughout.

A good year in Spain should give him a chance at getting back into the fold for next summer.
