At one stage, Robert Lewandowski’s exit from Barcelona felt almost inevitable. His starting role had come under threat, his minutes were being managed more carefully.

Also, there was a growing belief that this season could mark the beginning of the end of his time in Catalunya.

However, football has a habit of rewriting narratives. And Lewandowski has done exactly that. The Polish striker has compelled Barcelona to change their stance.

Despite being rotated more frequently under Hansi Flick, often with Ferran Torres leading the line, Lewandowski still finished last season with an astonishing 46 goals across all competitions.

Moreover, he has already hit double figures again this term, showing his value to the squad. He has score 10 goals and provided 2 assists in 20 appearances this season so far.

The 37-year-old is already attracting interest from various MLS and Saudi Pro League clubs. However, neither Lewandowski nor Barcelona have not pushed for an exit.

Flick accepts that Torres cannot shoulder the burden alone, and having an experienced No.9 remains vital.

So, according to AS, Barcelona are now open to the idea of keeping the Polish striker for at least another 12 months, a clear shift from earlier thinking.

Lewandowski is also a key role model for younger players, including 18-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal.

With 111 goals for Barcelona, he now sits just ten strikes away from the club’s all-time top ten scorers. Currently he is 12th in the list only behind Hristo Stoichkov (117) and Josep Escola(120).

For now, Lewandowski is in no rush. He continues to savour every moment, aware that his career is nearing its final chapters. But he is far from finished.

And Barcelona, once preparing for life without him, are no longer so sure they want to let him go.
