The countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has already started building huge excitement across the football world.

Brazil and the United States are both expected to attract major attention during the tournament. However, their latest meeting produced chaos instead of quality football, as per the BBC.

A friendly between the women’s teams of the two nations descended into ugly scenes after officials handed out eight red cards during a heated clash in Fortaleza.

The United States secured a 1-0 victory in the game. However, the result quickly became secondary after tensions exploded late in the second half.

More than 55,000 supporters attended the game at Arena Castelao, one of the planned venues for next year’s Women’s World Cup.

The match already carried major attention. Brazil defeated the USA side 2-1 during the first game of the double-header on Saturday. But Tuesday’s meeting turned increasingly aggressive as the game progressed.

Brazil manager Arthur Elias and three members of his coaching staff received red cards near the end of the match following repeated confrontations with officials. The situation then worsened dramatically during added time.

Forward Bia Zaneratto received a second yellow card after pushing Emily Sonnett during an altercation between players.

Moments later, referee Paola Cebollada Lopez also dismissed defender Tarciane after she elbowed Sophia Wilson. The chaos continued after the final whistle.

Brazil forward Kerolin confronted the referee and immediately received a red card. Meanwhile, Ludmila also saw red after sarcastically applauding the official during the heated scenes.

Police wearing riot gear later had to enter the pitch. They surrounded the match officials while security attempted to restore calm inside the stadium.
