Footballers live a very lavish life. And, they should behave carefully. Even a small mistake from footballers can make headlines.
Also, when a player plays in the Champions League, he becomes a global star. So, he has to be careful about each and every act.
Otherwise, things can become messy for that football. Now, due to a mistake, a Champions League star could be facing jail term.
Yes, a shocking story has emerged from Portugal, as Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup has admitted he expects to be convicted after sharing an illegal video featuring minors.
The 21-year-old Norway international faces sentencing in Denmark later this month and could receive a suspended jail term for what he described as a “stupid mistake.”
The offence dates back two years, when Schjelderup was 19 and on loan at FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark.
Moreover, he revealed that he had forwarded the clip to a friend without realising its contents, claiming that he deleted it moments later after being told it was illegal.
In a lengthy statement shared with supporters on his Instagram story, the Benfica attacker took full responsibility for his actions.
He explained that he and his friends often exchanged videos online and that he forwarded the clip “without thinking clearly,” admitting he only saw the beginning of it before passing it on.
Therefore, he now accepts that his actions were wrong and understands the legal consequences.
Furthermore, Schjelderup expressed deep remorse to everyone affected by the case, including his club, national team, and supporters.
He said he had been in shock ever since the charge was filed. The player also admitted that the experience had left him “embarrassed” and “ashamed.”
Also, he apologised to those directly impacted by the video, saying the incident did not reflect who he truly is as a person.
The Norwegian forward is due in court on November 19, where prosecutors are expected to finalise the case.
