Inter Milan fans had a lot of hope going into the Champions League final in Munich yesterday against Paris Saint-Germain.

They reached the final after winning an all-time classic semi-final against Barcelona.

After Raphinha’s 87th minute striker, Francesco Acerbi’s 93rd minute equaliser sent the game to extra time.

With nine minutes gone in extra time, Davide Frattesi scored the goal that sent Inter through to the Champions League final.

After a semi-final defeat in the Coppa Italia, hopes of a double were still there.

Inter failed to capitalise on Napoli’s dropped points against Parma in their second to last game of the Serie A season.

Despite being 2-1 up in the 90th minute, they conceded an injury time penalty.

This was converted by former Barcelona and Chelsea winger Pedro.

Their 2-0 win over Como on the final day was not enough.

Napoli would win their final game, also with a 2-0 scoreline.

This meant that Inter would be runners up.

With the final in Munich on the horizon, there was hope that it could still be a good season.

The fans were certainly making themselves heard in the city of Munich yesterday afternoon.

For both teams in the final, it felt like their year.

PSG had the thrills of a penalty shootout win over Liverpool.

They overcame a late fightback against Aston Villa.

The task of facing an Arsenal team was then dished out to them, a side who had just knocked out the reigning champions.

Inter Milan had to face Bayern Munich in the quarter finals, a team desperate to play the final in their own stadium.

Their aforementioned semi-final against Barcelona put them against the tournament favourites.

Both teams overcame these challenges.

They would each have their own moments that they would look back on should they win the final.

However, only one team showed up.

PSG made history, beating Inter 5-0.

This sets the record as the largest margin of victory in a final the tournament has ever seen.

This will hurt Inter, having also lost in the 2023 final.

The Champions League final loss has furthered speculation surrounding their manager.

Losing Simone Inzaghi would be a damaging departure for the club after bringing a lot of success.

He has been manager since 2021, after previously taking Lazio to the Champions League quarter final that year.

Since his arrival, he has won two Coppa Italia’s, one Serie A title, three Supercoppa Italiana’s and two Champions League runners up medals.

Inzaghi could now be set for the exit door.

It has been reported that Inzaghi will meet with the Inter board next week with his future at the club up for debate.

There has been a proposal made from one club, who could secure his services should he depart Inter.

Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are reported to have put an “offer on the table” for Inzaghi.

There has been a movement by the Saudi League in recent years to secure the best players from Europe’s top leagues.

Should they acquire Inzaghi, then this could see other top managers also join the league.
