Newcastle United are going through a difficult spell this season. The results have not been good enough.
So, Eddie Howe is now under pressure. Also, fans are starting to question his position at the club.
The Magpies are currently sitting mid-table in the Premier League. Their hopes of securing European football next season are fading.
So, frustration is building at St. James’ Park as the expectations were much higher at the start of the season after securing Champions League football last season.
Things got worse after their Champions League exit. Newcastle suffered a heavy defeat to Barcelona over two legs.
Also, their latest lost at home to rivals Sunderland made things worse for the former Bournemouth boss. That defeat hurt badly, as Sunderland have now moved above them in the table.
So, the reaction from fans has been strong. Many have taken to social media to express their anger. Some supporters have even called for a change in management.
However, the club’s position is very clear. Newcastle are not planning to sack Eddie Howe right now. According to TEAMtalk, the club will review his position at the end of the season.
That is part of their normal process. Also, the hierarchy still believe in him. They see him as the right man for the long-term project. There is also context behind the struggles.
Injuries have played a big role. Also, squad depth has also been an issue, as they failed to land multiple targets last summer.
Importantly, Howe still has the support of the dressing room. He remains aligned with the club’s vision. So, Newcastle do not want to make a rushed decision.
As things stand, Eddie Howe still has the backing of the club. They will make a decision on his future after the end of the current season.
Newcastle United will assess Eddie Howe’s position at the end of the season, @TEAMtalk understands, though the club currently have no plans to bring an end to his tenure and remain firmly behind their head coach.https://t.co/kfpHOAfQfo
