Manchester City’s managerial change could completely transform the future of one player who looked certain to leave the club this summer.
Pep Guardiola’s departure after a decade at the Etihad already triggered major uncertainty surrounding several senior figures inside the squad.
One of the biggest question marks involved a player once viewed as the future face of Manchester City. He arrived for a British record fee at the Etihad Stadium.
The England international spent most of the past year away from the Etihad after falling out of favour under Guardiola.
A difficult relationship with the departing City manager eventually pushed the midfielder towards an exit after he was excluded from the Club World Cup squad.
Jack Grealish then joined Everton on loan hoping to rebuild confidence and rediscover his best form. However, injuries soon disrupted his campaign.
A stress fracture suffered in January ended his season early. And the injury also destroyed his hopes of making England’s World Cup squad this summer.
Before Guardiola’s exit became official, the midfielder reportedly already decided he wanted to leave Manchester City permanently.
Everton also showed strong interest in completing a full transfer. Now though, everything may have changed.
According to The Mirror, incoming Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca reportedly wants to hold talks with Jack Grealish about reviving his career at the Etihad.
The Italian believes Grealish could still become an important part of City’s future under his management.
Maresca’s arrival potentially offers the 30-year-old a huge lifeline after months of uncertainty surrounding his future.
Grealish still has one year remaining on his Manchester City contract. So, unless told otherwise, he will return for pre-season training in July.
Reports suggest Grealish maintained strong friendships with several City players including Erling Haaland throughout his loan spell away from the club.
Now, with Guardiola gone and Maresca preparing to begin a new era at the Etihad, Grealish suddenly has an unexpected opportunity to completely revive his Manchester City career.
