Many Argentine players have left their mark on the Premier League. Some are also making their mark currently. Now, the Argentina team has banned one ex-Premier League star.
Argentina’s preparations for their friendly against Angola have taken an unexpected turn.
Several key players, including Julian Alvarez, are not with the team after failing to complete vaccination requirements.
The World Cup winners will face Angola in their only friendly of the international window on Friday.
However, head coach Lionel Scaloni has to reshuffle his squad after three players missed a key health protocol.
According to an official statement, Atletico Madrid duo Nahuel Molina and Giuliano Simeone, along with Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez, have been excluded from the travelling party.
Furthermore, the Argentine Football Association confirmed that the trio did not complete the required paperwork related to the yellow fever vaccination.
It is a mandatory health measure for travellers entering Angola.
Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne virus found in parts of Africa, South America, and the Caribbean.
While the illness can cause mild symptoms, it may also lead to serious complications such as bleeding, jaundice, and organ failure if untreated.
The vaccine offers effective protection but must be verified before international travel.
Moreover, Argentina will also be without Enzo Fernandez, who continues his recovery from a knee injury. The team will instead use the break to train in Europe, with their base set in Alicante, Spain.
Lisandro Martinez has joined up with the squad but will not feature as he works toward full fitness following his long-term ACL injury.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa midfielder Emi Buendia has received a late call-up. Also, Kevin Mac Allister, the brother of Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, has got his first senior call-up.
Thus, Scaloni will hope the disruption does not affect his side’s focus ahead of their friendly clash with Angola.
