Brazilian attacker Willian enjoyed a successful spell with Chelsea Football Club.

Making 339 total appearances in all competitions, Willian recorded 63 goals and 58 assists.

During this period, he would go on to win two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup and one UEFA Europa League.

He would also be named Chelsea Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year in 2016 and would be the Europa League top assist provider in the 2018/19 season.

Willian was almost not even a Chelsea player, turning down strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

He even underwent a medical with Spurs but opted against signing for the white half of North London in a dramatic U-turn.

It has since been reported that he was only going to sign for Spurs if the Chelsea deal fell through.

It has been this U-turn that was the source of Chelsea’s chant for the Brazilian.

Former Chelsea player Willian speaks on chant that made him laugh

Speaking with Chelsea‘s official website, he spoke on the chant that the club’s fans adopted for him.

Based on the song “Tom Hark” by The Piranhas, the chant followed one particular theme.

The sh*te from spurs, They bought his flight, But Willian, He saw the light. He got the call from Abramovic. And off he went to Stamford Bridge, And he hates Tottenham, he hates Tottenham, He hates Tottenham and he hates Tottenham…

Willian spoke on why the chant made him laugh.

“It made me laugh,’ he grinned. ‘It’s a funny song”, he said. “It’s about the history, although it did not happen exactly like that! But the affection was good.

“I was very surprised when the fans made this song especially for me. It made me feel that they like me. But I also remember thinking I now had more pressure on me to do well on the pitch because I had just arrived and they already started to sing my name.

“So the pressure was there, but in a good way, and since my first game I always tried to do my best for this club, for the fans and for my team-mates as well.”
