Former Chelsea star in intensive care following knife attack

He was once tipped to be a Ballon d’Or winner.

Chelsea, Stamford Bridge

Chelsea had a memorable night at Stamford Bridge last night, demolishing 10-man Barcelona 3-0 in the Champions League.

Goals from Estevao and Liam Delap sealed the deal for the Blues. However, the home side took the lead with an own goal from Barcelona defender Jules Kounde.

Stamford Bridge was rocking last night. However, for a former Chelsea star, his night was spent in hospital.

The former Chelsea prodigy is now fighting for his life in intensive care. He was once tipped to be a Ballon d’Or winner during his time with Chelsea.

Yann Gueho is fighting to recover in intensive care after a brutal knife attack in Paris. The former Chelsea academy talent suffered severe injuries in Choisy-le-Roi earlier this month.

According to The Athletic, he was with a friend on the night of November 9 when the assault took place.

Emergency services rushed him to hospital, and he has remained under close medical care ever since.

French authorities moved quickly with the investigation. The Creteil public prosecutor’s office confirmed that a man now faces charges for attempted murder and gang violence.

A woman is also facing gang-related charges and has been placed under witness assistance status in connection with attempted murder. A judicial investigation formally opened on November 12.

Gueho once carried huge expectations on his shoulders. Chelsea brought him into their academy in 2009, and staff viewed him as one of France’s brightest young prospects.

After leaving Stamford Bridge at 16, he joined Lille and then Nantes, but his promising career ended early.

Doctors diagnosed him with bipolar disorder in 2016, forcing him into retirement at just 22.

Reports claim he was undergoing heavy treatment at the time of the attack, leaving him more physically fragile than usual.
