Some transfers look perfect on paper.
The biggest club in the world, with the best player in the world.
A match that felt like destiny.
And then reality arrives.
What’s currently unfolding at Real Madrid right now isn’t just a bad run of form.
It’s a full-blown crisis, with Kylian Mbappe at the centre of it.
Real Madrid and Mbappe head for shocking crisis
According to Jorge Picon, the situation between Mbappe and Real Madrid has now escalated into a full-scale crisis, with neither the player nor the club happy with what they’re seeing from the other.
The problems didn’t start overnight.
They began in January, when Florentino Perez made the decision to sack Xabi Alonso.
Mbappe had made his position on the manager clear internally.
He trusted Alonso’s work and believed certain players had engineered his dismissal.
However, when Perez pulled the trigger anyway, the relationship between the president and his star player took a serious hit.
Playing under Alvaro Arbeloa did nothing to improve things.
The dressing room situation has deteriorated significantly since then.
For months, teammates have felt that Mbappe’s lack of defensive commitment has been holding the team back.
During a recovery period from a hamstring injury, Mbappe travelled to Italy.
A decision that some inside the club viewed as disrespectful given the team’s struggles.
The training ground atmosphere was already tense; that made it worse.
His representatives pushed back, calling elements of the coverage exaggerated.
But crucially, they didn’t deny the incident itself.
The contrast being drawn inside the dressing room between Mbappe and Vinicius Junior had become a recurring theme, throughout the season.
Florentino Perez is reportedly frustrated and pushing Mbappe to be available for El Clasico on Sunday.
Meanwhile, over a million Real Madrid supporters have signed a petition demanding the club sell him this summer.
A trophyless season, with a Champions League exit.
And a dressing room at war with itself.
Thus, the Mbappe project, as currently constructed, isn’t working.
And everyone knows it.
