Chelsea’s season is starting to slip away. Another defeat has left them outside the top five, with Champions League hopes fading fast.
The pressure is building both on the pitch and behind the scenes. Chelsea have now lost four straight league games.
The gap to fifth place continues to grow, and the mood around Stamford Bridge is turning tense. That has naturally raised questions about Liam Rosenior and his future.
Club chiefs had earlier suggested his job was not tied to Champions League qualification. But recent results have started to shift that stance. Now, even the manager himself is not hiding from reality.
“They’re supporting me. They believe in me.
“There’s one thing I haven’t believed: the reality of the situation.
“At Chelsea Football Club we’ve lost our four last league games. That’s not good enough.
“Regardless of what they believe I can achieve with the club in the long term, I need to get results now with this group and with the sporting directors as well.
“I can’t speak about the long term if you’re not doing a job in the short term and being really respectfully honest here, we haven’t done well enough in recent games.
“That needs to change and that’s on my shoulders as the head coach of this team.
“I have made mistakes. I’m going to make more mistakes, every coach does, but with the guys here, how they support me, because we all want success for the club, we can be open and honest about that.
“We know we need to win games of football in the now.”
The situation has not gone unnoticed at board level. Co-owner Behdad Eghbali recently backed Rosenior, but his words left room for change if results do not improve.
“We’ve had a tough past five, six matches, but I think we’re behind Liam.
“Of course, it’s a results business, but we think he can be successful long term.”
That support now feels fragile. Fan protests have intensified, and frustration inside the stadium continues to grow.
The latest defeat has only added to that pressure. Rosenior knows the task ahead is huge. He said:
“We’ve made it very difficult for ourselves.
“We have to be honest and realistic with that.
“What we can’t do is give up, we keep fighting.”
For now, he remains in charge. But unless results improve quickly, the situation could change fast.
