Lisandro Martinez and Alexis Mac Allister have taken unusual steps following the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Manchester United defender and Liverpool midfielder both arranged extra protection after returning to England.
The decision came shortly after Argentina’s victory over England and raised questions about what prompted the move. Both players acted before the start of the new club season.
The added security remained in place for a limited period, while neither Manchester United nor Liverpool publicly commented on the situation.
According to The Sun, Lisandro Martinez and Alexis Mac Allister hired private security firms to patrol their homes after the backlash that followed Argentina’s celebrations against England.
The report states security personnel stayed outside both properties in the North West for two days after emotions remained high following Argentina’s 2-1 World Cup semi-final victory.
The controversy centred on the post-match celebrations. Martinez held a banner reading, ‘The Falklands are Argentina’s,’ while Mac Allister stood nearby with the banner also visible.
Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso also took part in holding the sign. The report adds that no attempts were made to vandalise either player’s home despite fears of possible retaliation.
It also states Manchester United played no role in arranging the security detail for Martinez’s property.
The Sun points to previous incidents involving footballers in England, including the vandalism of Marcus Rashford’s mural after the Euro 2020 final.
For Martinez and Mac Allister, the precaution proved unnecessary in the end. No incidents were reported, and both players completed the period without any damage to their homes.
