Liverpool forward overlooked for international call up

Perhaps unlucky

It has been an absolutely frantic start to the season for Liverpool.

They have looked mouth watering going forward at times, and extremely shaky at the back.

Which has made for very entertaining games for the neutral.

Truth be told, they can find themselves very fortunate to have six points from their opening two games.

We saw them be particularly fortunate to come away from St James’ Park with all three points.

However, with their quality at the top end of the pitch means they will always remain a threat in games.

One player who has stood out this season, perhaps the most, is Hugo Ekitike.

He found the back of the net in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace with a lovely finish.

Then, he followed that up with a strike in both of their opening two Premier League games, and an assist to boot.

However, this was not enough for Didier Deschamps.

The France manager announced his squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Iceland.

But there was no room for Ekitike, despite the start he has made to life on Merseyside.

Which follows a seriously impressive season with Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.

Although France do have an embarrassment of riches in the forward areas, he can certainly feel aggrieved not to have been called up.

Liverpool will not be disappointed though – with Ekitike getting plenty of rest and more time to bed in under Arne Slot.

If his current form is before he has fully adapted, imagine what he will be like once his feet are under the table.
