Liverpool’s internal politics have intensified. Recently, it emerged that the club held a confidential meeting with a legend to address concerns over his punditry.
However, this meeting took place long before Mohamed Salah’s public outburst placed the club under the spotlight again.
Tension first erupted after the 3-3 draw with Leeds United, when Salah stunned reporters by saying Liverpool were ‘throwing him under the bus’.
The Egyptian also admitted that he had ‘no relationship’ with Arne Slot. He even hinted that the upcoming clash with Brighton could be his final game for the club.
In that same exchange, he aimed a playful jab at Jamie Carragher. The former Liverpool defender responded a day later with an eight-minute monologue on Monday Night Football
He called Salah a ‘disgrace’ and accused him of trying to get Slot sacked. He later softened the tone but did not retract the criticism. Carragher said on CBS:
“Mo, I apologise I have upset you… but you just need to behave yourself off the pitch.”
However, according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool had already summoned Carragher to a discreet meeting back in September.
The purpose was to raise concerns about the tone of some of his commentary, which several players find harsh or unhelpful.
This meeting took place long before the Salah row, and it is something the club occasionally initiates with high-profile ex-players.
Salah has not responded publicly to any of Carragher’s remarks, while multiple squad members are also unhappy with the former defender’s uncompromising assessments.
The dynamic is now compared to the uneasy relationship some Manchester United players have with Gary Neville and Paul Scholes.
With Salah not departing for AFCON until after the Brighton match, there remains time for internal discussions.
Interest from Saudi Arabia persists, but Liverpool have not shut the door on resolving the situation.
