The pavement outside Anfield is slowly being covered in colour, mostly red, but not only.
On 97 Avenue, a part of the stadium known for the Hillsborough memorial, a makeshift shrine to Diogo Jota has taken shape.
This stretch of road has always held deep meaning for Liverpool supporters.
Today, it carries even more weight. Jota’s name now joins the symbols of grief and remembrance scattered across the area.
A fresh floral tribute marked with his name was gently placed there this morning.
More followed, scarves, shirts, and handwritten notes. Supporters arrived quietly. Some stayed only a moment. Others stood still for longer.
Among the reds of Liverpool, a Manchester United scarf lay folded on the grass, a rare sight, but telling. Rivalry put aside, this is about something far greater.
Football supporters, no matter the club, understand loss. Jota was admired not just by Liverpool fans, but across the sport.
His hard-working attitude and calm nature won many over. And now, outside the ground where he lit up games with his goals, the crowd gathers in sorrow.
Children have laid drawings. A young boy tied a scarf to a rail and stepped back, wiping his eyes. Some fans kneeled to read the notes left behind.
The shrine keeps growing. Bit by bit, memory by memory. What started as one bouquet has become a sea of tribute.
Flowers, flags, and personal items now stretch across the grass near the Hillsborough memorial.
It is not just about mourning a footballer. This is about honouring a man loved by many.
Diogo Jota’s name will remain part of Anfield forever.
And 97 Avenue, a place of remembrance, now carries another story, a painful one, but one full of love.
