RCD Mallorca have been struggling in the league this season, currently sitting inside the relegation zone with six wins.
With this being their fifth season in a row in La Liga, finishing just outside the European spots last season at 10th, many didn’t believe them to be fighting relegation a season after.
Having already lost thirteen games, Mallorca have been a shadow of themselves.
Off the back of a successful season in their eyes, former head coach Jagoba Arrasate was expected to somewhat replicate that.
However Arrasate was sacked after their defeat to 6th place Celta Vigo.
It was only last summer where they were linked to household names such as former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen, who subsequently moved to Wolfsburg.
With all their woes this season, Mallorca have got a shining light in Vedat Muriqi.
The Kosovan has netted 16 times in La Liga this season, only behind Kylian Mbappé as the league’s top goalscorer.
Having won January’s La Liga EA Sports Player of the Month, Muriqi may look to elevate his game, following Mallorca’s new appointment.
With five points separating 12th and 19th, RCD Mallorca believed that now was the time to push for a new manager.
Mallorca have officially announced that they have hired former Manchester City defender and Premier League champion Martin Demichelis as their new manager.
Demichelis, who had a seven year playing stint in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich also winning four Bundesliga titles, was most recently manager of Mexican side Monterrey, having left the club in May of last year.
Although relatively new to managing, Demichelis holds a league title to his name; the Argentine Primera División with River Plate in 2023, with RCD Mallorca believing that the Argentine could help them steer clear of relegation this season.
