Replacing a manager like Pep is never simple.
For nearly a decade, one figure has defined everything at Manchester City.
The style of play; the dominance.
Every decision has been shaped by one idea.
Control.
And when that eventually comes to an end, the next step in replacing him has to be precise
It has to be planned.
That process, it seems, is already underway.
Because while uncertainty continues to surround the current situation at the Etihad, attention behind the scenes has quietly shifted toward the future.
Manchester City confirm Pep’s successor
According to City Xtra, via Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have already identified Enzo Maresca as the man most likely to replace Pep Guardiola should he leave the club.
It is not an official appointment, however, it is a clear indication of direction.
Romano states that Maresca remains the “name identified” internally, with City preparing for the moment Guardiola decides to step away.
And that detail matters.
Because this is not a random choice.
Maresca knows the system. He has worked under Guardiola before, serving as part of the coaching setup during one of the club’s most successful periods, winning the treble alongside him.
In many ways, he fits the role perfectly.
A continuation rather than a reset, which is exactly what City want.
The timing, however, remains unclear.
Guardiola has not made a final decision on his future, and that uncertainty continues to hang over everything.
The club are not forcing the situation. Instead, they are preparing quietly in the background.
