Manchester City have confirmed Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola’s successor. The Citizens ended the 2025-26 season as Premier League runners-up behind Arsenal.
However, former boss, Pep Guardiola, still guided the club to both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup before bringing his remarkable spell at the Etihad Stadium to an end.
Since then, City’s attention has shifted towards the future. The club has also remained busy in the transfer market as preparations continue for the new season.
Now, the Premier League club have officially appointed Enzo Maresca as their new manager.
The Italian has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2029.
The appointment marks Maresca’s third spell at Manchester City. He returns with experience at the highest level after previous success in his coaching career.
Speaking after his appointment, Maresca expressed his delight at returning to the club. He said:
“Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me.
“City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation.
“This will be my third spell here. I know this Club, I know the demands and I know the expectations.
“The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special, and I want to thank them for showing faith in my ability.
“I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City.”
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported that Manchester City will pay Chelsea a compensation package worth £17 million following Maresca’s appointment.
The report also stated that the Italian will pay separate compensation to his former club, although that figure has not been disclosed.
