Manchester United have a rich history. So many legends of the game have played for this amazing club. However, it seems like the club has decided to banish one of those legends.
The Red Devils are trying to reclaim their lost throne in English football. Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, so many managers have come and gone.
The latest man to take charge at Old Trafford is Ruben Amorim. After a successful stint with Sporting CP, the new regime at United under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS brought the 40-year-old to United.
The Portuguese manager had a tough start in his United career. The Red Devils finished 15th in the table and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.
As a result, they are not in Europe this season. Also, the club backed the manager by bringing in the players he wanted and letting those leave who were not in his plans.
Moreover, Manchester United had a tough start to the new Premier League campaign. There were rumours of Ruben Amorim getting the sack from the United hierarchy.
However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe backed Amorim publicly. And Amorim is also determined to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.
There is also a Manchester United legend who wanted to help Sir Jim Ratcliffe in his quest to bring the Red Devils to the top.
However, the British billionaire did not entertain such help. Speaking on his show, Eric Cantona gave an account of his interaction with Sir Jim Ratcliffe:
“I have many other passions and projects, but I thought that for two or three years, I could maybe put those to the side and try to give something to this club, which has given everything to me.
“But he didn’t seem interested. I did what I had to do, so I don’t feel guilty anymore. I tried my best.
“Sir Alex Ferguson created a style of beautiful attacking football, which the new owners should have used. Instead, they destroyed it.”
Manchester United will face Everton at Old Trafford after the international break, and Ruben Amorim will be hoping that he can continue his unbeaten streak.
