PSG could part ways with one of the most important figures of the QSI era this summer.
The French giants are once again open to letting their long-serving captain, Marquinhos, leave the club following another successful season in Paris.
There was a strong emotional atmosphere around Marquinhos after PSG secured the UEFA Champions League title against Inter Milan last year.
The Brazilian defender appeared overwhelmed even before the final whistle as the club finally achieved the trophy they had chased for years.
Now, under his leadership, the Parisians made history by winning the title back-to-back. They are the second team to do so during the Champions League era of the competition after Real Madrid.
Marquinhos arrived at PSG during the early stages of the QSI project. He became one of the central faces of the club’s rise in European football.
Winning the Champions League back-to-back now appears to have changed the direction of his future.
According to L’Equipe, PSG are prepared to let Marquinhos leave this summer, just as they were at the end of last season.
The report states that PSG already showed signs of planning for the future after moving for Illia Zabarnyi last summer.
The arrival of the defender reportedly formed part of the club’s succession strategy at the back.
Despite speculation surrounding his future last summer, Marquinhos eventually decided to remain in Paris for another season.
However, PSG are once again willing to respect any decision made by their captain regarding his future.
Saudi Arabian clubs have shown interest in the Brazilian international in recent years. However, the report claims Marquinhos is now less interested in moving to Saudi Arabia.
Instead, if he decides to leave Europe for the Middle East, the defender would reportedly prefer a move to Qatar.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Marquinhos decides this summer is the right moment to begin a completely new challenge away from Paris Saint-Germain.
