Mohamed Salah tipped to join Liverpool’s Premier League rivals

With no agreement over his next club, speculation continues to grow around Salah’s future.

Mohamed Salah‘s remarkable Liverpool career has officially come to an end after a dramatic final season at Anfield.

The Egyptian forward endured a difficult domestic campaign before agreeing to terminate his contract 12 months early.

Despite those struggles at club level, Mohamed Salah has rediscovered his best form with Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and remains fully focused on the tournament.

The 33-year-old has scored one goal and supplied two assists during the group stage.

He also inspired Egypt to a historic 3-1 comeback victory over New Zealand, securing the nation’s first-ever World Cup finals win.

Although he suffered a hamstring scare against Iran, Salah has returned to partial training ahead of Egypt’s Round of 32 clash against Australia on July 3.

His club future, however, remains unresolved. Salah officially left Liverpool after reaching an agreement to end his contract a year before its original expiry.

That decision closed a memorable nine-year spell in which he scored 257 goals in all competitions and helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

His departure followed a difficult final campaign that included a public dispute with former manager Arne Slot.

With no agreement over his next club, speculation continues to grow around Salah’s future.

While a move to the Saudi Pro League is still viewed as the most likely destination, no deal has been confirmed.

That uncertainty has revived comments previously made by Chelsea legend Didier Drogba. He admitted that he would love to see Salah return to Stamford Bridge. Speaking to Al-Axis TV in 2021, Drogba said (via Express):

“If I am selfish, I will tell Salah to leave Liverpool and return to Chelsea.”

“My opinion is that Salah will remain the best, no matter if he continues at Liverpool or if he moves.

“Any other team would perform better with him because he understands what he is doing, is good at scoring and creating goals, and only needs the confidence of the coach.

“I do not know what his decision would be. This is his decision alone and his future, but wherever he goes, I will be one of his fans.”

Mohamed Salah originally joined Chelsea from Basel in January 2014 in an £11 million deal.

However, he struggled to establish himself in West London and made only 13 Premier League appearances.

After loan spells with Fiorentina and Roma, he eventually made the move to Liverpool, which transformed his career.
