Manchester City are approaching a defining stretch of the season, and every game now carries serious weight. However, just as momentum builds, Pep Guardiola has been handed a fresh concern.
The issue revolves around Rodri, who picked up a groin problem during the crucial win over Arsenal.
The midfielder played 88 minutes before he was forced off late in the game, immediately raising doubts over his availability.
As a result, City waited for further assessment. The Spaniard underwent tests to determine the severity of the injury, with attention quickly shifting to the upcoming trip to Burnley.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Pep Guardiola confirmed that Rodri will not be part of the squad for that fixture. He said:
“I think for tomorrow he will not be ready.”
That update creates uncertainty ahead of a packed schedule. Manchester City are also preparing for an FA Cup semi-final against Southampton, and Rodri’s involvement remains unclear.
However, Guardiola did suggest there is still a chance of a quick return. He added:
“We’ll see in the next games, semi-final against Southampton or in 12, 13 days against Everton.”
So, while he misses Burnley, there remains hope that he could return shortly after. In the meantime, Guardiola may turn to other options in midfield.
The Manchester City boss highlighted one player who has already stepped up this season. He said:
“Nico Gonzalez has helped us a lot, a lot this season in the absence of Rodri, and he’s helped us to be in the position that we are right now.”
Meanwhile, City will also be without Ruben Dias, who continues to recover from an ankle injury.
Despite these setbacks, the objective remains unchanged. A win at Turf Moor could take Manchester City to the top of the Premier League table.
