A disturbing chain of events has emerged around a Premier League star. However, reports make one thing clear from the beginning.
The forward is not accused of any wrongdoing. Instead, he appears to have been pulled into a criminal case that spiralled beyond control.
According to The Athletic and Dutch outlet Het Parool, the incident dates back to 2022. At the centre of the case sits a notorious gangster.
The footballer’s name surfaced publicly only three months before his move to the Premier League last summer.
At the time, Brian Brobbey had returned to Ajax from RB Leipzig. While attending a music festival in Amsterdam, he was approached by a man identified in court as Jeymon A.
The two had grown up in the same suburb of Zuidoost, but they were not close. Jeymon A allegedly claimed that criminals from Utrecht were looking for Brobbey.
He then demanded compensation for resolving the issue. The striker rejected the claim and walked away. Still, the situation did not end there.
In January 2023, fireworks were pushed through the letterbox of his mother-in-law’s home. Two months later, an explosive device targeted his car. In April, his sister-in-law’s car was set on fire.
Then matters escalated further. During a meeting arranged over Snapchat, Jeymon A allegedly shot one of the player’s childhood friends three times.
The victim survived after emergency surgery. Investigators later linked the shooting to the earlier threats. Days after the attack, the footballer reportedly received a message demanding €150,000.
The report states there is no evidence he paid. Jeymon A was later sentenced to a total of 19 years in prison for attempted manslaughter and other offences.
However, he was never charged with extorting Brian Brobbey.
