RB Leipzig troll Fabrizio Romano over Yan Diomande transfer to Real Madrid

Romano’s original claim eventually proved accurate when both clubs finalised the agreement.

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Yan Diomande after reaching a record agreement with RB Leipzig.

The Spanish giants will pay an initial €125 million for the 19-year-old winger. Performance-related bonuses could increase the final package to €140 million.

Diomande has signed a seven-year contract running until June 2033. The deal makes him Real Madrid’s most expensive signing and the costliest African footballer in history.

His transfer completes a remarkable rise over the past year. Diomande joined Leganes for €20 million before quickly earning a move to Leipzig.

The Ivory Coast international then produced an outstanding breakthrough season in Germany. He registered 13 goals and 10 assists across 36 competitive appearances.

Diomande also impressed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Those performances increased interest from several leading European clubs, including Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Real Madrid moved decisively to secure his signature. The winger will now join Jose Mourinho’s squad alongside other summer arrivals such as Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella.

The transfer also ended a public dispute surrounding Fabrizio Romano‘s early announcement. The Italian journalist issued his trademark “Here we go” before Leipzig formally approved the move.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg challenged that update and insisted negotiations remained ongoing.

RB Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer then criticised ‘so-called transfer experts’ for claiming the deal was complete.

The delay reportedly centred on Leipzig’s search for a replacement. An agency dispute involving Maxidel Management and Roc Nation Sports also complicated the process.

However, Romano’s original claim eventually proved accurate when both clubs finalised the agreement.

RB Leipzig then used their official announcement to deliver one final joke at the journalist’s expense. Leipzig wrote before confirming their agreement with Real Madrid for Diomande:

“HERE WE ACTUALLY GO”

Their chosen wording directly mocked Romano’s famous catchphrase after the disagreement surrounding his initial report. Despite the earlier tension, the destination never changed.

Diomande has now completed his childhood dream move and will begin the next stage of his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.
