Real Madrid underwent a major squad transformation during the summer transfer window, spending approximately €225 million under new manager Jose Mourinho.
Yan Diomande became their headline acquisition after arriving from RB Leipzig for €125 million.
Madrid also strengthened defensively by signing Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for €55 million and Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan for €20 million.
Carlos Espi arrived from Levante for €25 million, while Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate joined on free transfers.
Meanwhile, Dani Carvajal and David Alaba retired, while Gonzalo Garcia completed a £34 million move to Fulham.
Madrid have subsequently started their La Liga campaign perfectly, collecting nine points from their opening three matches.
They beat Espanyol 2–1 before defeating Real Sociedad 4–1 and Malaga 4–0 at the Bernabeu.
However, attention has now shifted away from Madrid’s performances following a legal development involving one of their defenders.
According to Canarias7, Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been convicted of a road safety offence after being caught drink driving in southern Gran Canaria.
The incident occurred on August 16 during a routine traffic stop in the summer resort areas of southern Gran Canaria.
Asencio was driving a Porsche and registered 0.90 mg/l of alcohol in exhaled breath, according to the report.
Furthermore, the 23-year-old was convicted following a summary trial held in San Bartolome de Tirajana.
The court fined Asencio €14,400 and suspended his driving licence for eight months.
The development comes after Asencio established himself as part of Real Madrid’s first-team squad during the 2025–26 campaign.
The centre-back made 23 La Liga appearances last season, accumulating 1,712 minutes and scoring twice.
Additionally, he contributed towards seven clean sheets during the domestic campaign. Asencio also featured eight times in the Champions League, where he registered one assist.
