Raul Asencio to stand trial over alleged sharing of intimate recording involving a minor
According to The Athletic, a Spanish court has formally confirmed that oral criminal proceedings will open against Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio, with a judge in Gran Canaria ending the investigation phase and sending the case to trial alongside three other former Real Madrid youth players.
Asencio has been ordered to post bail of €15,000.
He denies wrongdoing.
The case centres on an incident at a Gran Canaria hotel in June 2023.
Two former Real Madrid youth players are accused of recording sexual encounters with two women, without the consent of either party.
Asencio, who was not present during the recording, faces a separate but connected charge.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has stated he received the video and showed it to another person.
Which constitutes two alleged crimes against privacy under Article 77 of the Spanish Criminal Code.
Prosecutors are seeking a prison term of two and a half years for Asencio specifically over those two charges.
The three other accused players face potentially longer sentences for their alleged direct roles.
One of the two victims has withdrawn her complaint against Asencio.
With court documents confirming financial compensation was paid and that the player sent her a letter of apology acknowledging he had made “a mistake.”
However, the second victim has not withdrawn her complaint.
That is the reason the trial proceeds with Asencio among the accused.
However, in his own public statement, Asencio maintained that his involvement was strictly limited to the “possible momentary viewing of some images by a third party”.
And that he had no involvement in recording or distributing the footage.
