Ibrahima Konate has rejected Liverpool’s latest contract offer. And now, the reason for the rejection has been revealed by TEAMtalk.
Liverpool are not having a great season. But the way they backed Arne Slot to deliver this season was commendable.
The Dutch manager won the Premier League in his first season in charge. Nobody expected that because he was replacing one of the most iconic Liverpool managers, Jurgen Klopp.
But Slot exceeded expectations to win the Premier League. So, the Liverpool board also exceeded expectations and spent around £450 million.
Yet, the results on the pitch have been disappointing. The Reds wanted to challenge for the Champions League apart from retaining the Premier League.
However, Liverpool are scrambling to get a foothold this season as they are fighting to stay in the top 4. Also, the Reds could be set to suffer another blow.
As mentioned earlier, Ibrahima Konate has rejected the latest contract offer from Liverpool. The French international is not happy with the offer.
The 26-year-old believes he should be among the best-paid defenders in Europe. However, TEAMtalk also mentioned that the defender doesn’t want the same pay as Virgil van Dijk.
The Liverpool captain’s current wage is around £300,000-a-week. But Konate doesn’t want that. However, he is not ready to accept what Liverpool are offering him.
Now, the Liverpool board believe that they have placed a good offer on the table for Konate, and the Frenchman should accept it.
Liverpool signed Konate from Leipzig on a 5-year deal in 2021 for £36 million. Now, if Konate and Liverpool fail to reach an agreement before next summer, the Frenchman could leave for free.
So, with just over a week left in the January transfer window, the Reds should make a decision now. They can either wait and let Konate leave for free or they can sell him now.
