Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo. The deal is now moving into its final stages.
Semenyo has already agreed personal terms with the Citizens. Bournemouth will receive the full £65 million release clause.
Discussions are ongoing over how the payment will be structured. The winger is currently earning around £75,000 per week at Bournemouth.
That figure will increase significantly after the move. According to The Guardian, his new contract at City will be worth £150,000 per week.
The contract is expected to run for five years. Performance related bonuses could increase the total value over time.
Even with the pay rise, he will not rank among City’s highest earners. His salary would place him outside the top ten at the club. Several senior players earn considerably more.
Erling Haaland remains the club’s top earner. Ruben Dias and Phil Foden also sit above the £200,000 per week mark.
The move follows a strong season from Antoine Semenyo. He has scored nine league goals so far. Only two players have scored more in the Premier League this campaign.
Bournemouth signed him for £10 million in 2023. Without the release clause, the club would have demanded a higher fee this winter.
Ghana failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. Because of that, he would be available immediately.
If Manchester City completed this deal early, Semenyo could have made his debut against Chelsea on January 4.
However, with the current scenario, it looks like Semenyo might have to wait for his debut. Also, he should not expect to have as many minutes at City as he used to get at Bournemouth.
So, Manchester City will be beating the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea for Semenyo’s signature.
