Real Madrid face a new kind of pressure. The financial rise of Premier League clubs has changed the market.
The biggest English sides now spend with a freedom that creates problems even for Europe’s most powerful institutions.
Liverpool have spent around €480 million, Arsenal have spent around €290 million, and even Chelsea have spent around €330 million this summer.
But for Madrid, their summer expenditure is around €178 million. That is why something bigger is happening behind the scenes in the Spanish capital.
The club’s leadership knows it cannot rely on history alone. It needs a plan that protects its global position for the next decade.
Now, the focus turns to Sunday’s annual meeting, where Florentino Perez will address the socios. He will talk about numbers, accounts, and performance.
But the real interest surrounds something far more sensitive. Meanwhile, members already know Premier League teams outspent Spanish sides by a huge margin last summer.
They also saw Apollo take control of Atletico Madrid in a deal worth more than €2bn. And, Diego Simeone’s side have spent around €175 million.
Still, Perez believes Real Madrid can stay in control. His plan aims to transform how the club handles capital without giving up its identity.
According to Financial Times, he wants new investment from outside shareholders. The intention is to allow up to 10 percent of the club to be sold.
The socios will keep the remaining 90 percent. The goal is simple: bring in fresh money while keeping ownership in the hands of the members.
At the same time, supporters fear the change will break tradition. Some insist the club must never be for sale.
Perez wants the socios to trust him again. He believes the plan will strengthen the club and keep superstars like Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior at the top of world football.
So, the decision now rests with the people who have shaped the club for 123 years.
